First Reconciliation / First Holy Communion
The sacrament of Reconciliation celebrates God’s forgiveness in our life through the individual's reception of the sacrament from a priest. The person confesses their sins, receives and completes a penance, and is forgiven through the prayer of absolution. Children of the Catholic Faith celebrate the sacrament of First Reconciliation around the age of seven and the preparation for the sacrament is provided in our parish by a two year sacramental preparation program, found both in our religious education program and at St. Francis Xavier Catholic School.
Holy Communion is receiving the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist that is consecrated at Mass by the priest. Holy Communion is received in the Body of Christ, the consecrated host and/or the Blood of Christ, the consecrated wine. Most Catholics receive their first Holy Communion around the age of seven or during the second grade. The religious education program at St. Francis Xavier Parish and the religious education classes at St. Francis Xavier Catholic School prepare the youth to receive their First Holy Communion and are part of the requirement for youth to receive their First Holy Communion. Before receiving their First Communion, children are required to have celebrated their First Reconciliation.
First Reconciliation and First Communion are celebrated by children in 2nd grade who are enrolled in the Religious Education program and have already been baptized as well as based upon the readiness of the individual child. This is typically around 2nd grade. Two years of formation are required prior to reception of the Sacrament.
Classes begin in September and will take place from 6:30-7:30pm on Wednesday evenings in Building C of our campus.
